Dear friend

Seems we’ve had all the seasons this week! The Croquet group was very lucky with Tuesday afternoon for our first session! A glorious Spring day made hitting those balls through hoops more fun. We are all looking forward to the next session on Tuesday 15 October. If you would like to join please let us know by clicking Trybooking.  https://www.trybooking.com/CVQEH.

Monday’s weather meant the walks were in jeopardy, but both went ahead and the sun came out. This Monday is a public holiday so the 7.30 walkers are taking the day off. Some of the 9.30 walkers will be heading to Central for the Transport Heritage Expo. This is not an official walk but we thought it was a wonderful opportunity to catch a steam train for a short ride and check out some of the other Heritage rides - there are steamboats on the Harbour (the Expo has a shuttle bus), vintage bus rides on the old double-decker buses, electric car rides, mail motor rides and a dining car experience.
To find out more go to the website where you can also book tickets for the rides. https://www.transportheritageexpo.com/

On a different note, there are three tickets left for the concert at Concourse on 13 October at 2 pm. The Hub has tickets to one of the two performances of the ‘Stabat Mater’. You can read more about it in last week’s news. To book https://www.trybooking.com/CUIIE

We are very fortunate to have access to many valuable talks in our community. This week’s talk at Rotary talk on Tuesday 8 October in the morning will cover the impact of Parkinson’s disease.

Mary Kay Walker will speak on its impact on the Sydney and Australian communities – including its increasing prevalence and the many complex symptoms, and treatment options.  She will discuss the significant changes brought about in communities and families when someone is diagnosed with Parkinson’s – and how we can manage those changes at the individual level as well as in the home, the workplace and our suburbs and towns.   She will also touch on the current discussions in the media about the correlation of Parkinson’s with certain chemicals.

This talk takes place at the Piato Restaurant 123 Blues Point Road, McMahons Point at 7:00 a.m. for 7:15 a.m. start.

In the afternoon the Hub Speaker is Sally James who will provide information on reducing the risk of falling and maximising our independence in our own homes. If you have ever fallen or cared for someone who has this will be of particular interest. Sally will also offer plenty of strageties to avoid falling.

Waverton Uniting Church Hall, Tuesday October 8 at 2pm.

On a brighter note here is a touch of railway nostalgia online Monty Python’s Neville Shunte! If you have lived in the UK and travelled on British Rail in its heyday you will enjoy this!

The Hub's Christmas Choir is looking for a Leader

Each year apart from Covid Hubbers who love to sing have formed a Christmas Choir. The Choir sings Christmas carols and songs on two afternoons in December at Waverton Station and brings a special Christmas spirit to Waverton. It is enjoyed by many in the community.

We are looking for a Choir Leader for this year. You will need to be available a couple of nights a week for about four to six weeks.

For about 10 years the choir has been led by Peter Butt. Peter is happy to help the new conductor with suggestions and details such as music, location, accompaniment and where to practise.

Email us at wavertonhub@gmail.com with the heading Christmas Choir.

Hub Artists Exhibition

On November 14 at the Mess Hall in the Coal Loader you can visit the Art Exhibition by the Hub's Art group. This is a wonderful chance for the artists to showcase their work so we look forward to Hubbers suppport.

More details on times to come - meanwhile make a note of the date.
