Dear friend
Have you thought about trying a new hobby?
An article in a Sydney paper this week got me thinking about whether there is something I have always wanted to do but never given a try. The article included stories of 65 year-old ballet dancer and another over 60 who joined a choir. These are just two examples. My partner and I started to learn to dance Argentine tango over 20 years ago - we are still learning. About the same time I took up yoga and this year I am learning Mah Jong - maybe it is time to try something new.
New hobbies can boost your mental health and give you new energy. We are planning to introduce Croquet as a Hub activity, if you are interested please email us with the heading Croquet. If working up a sweat isn’t your thing consider the creative arts. The Hub reinstated the Art class this year with a Drawing class every Thursday morning. A chance to learn new skills and techniques and to meet others who will understand your interest. Check the Calendar.
A look at the Hub’s calendar will reveal a diverse range of activities - and we are always happy to consider more but we can’t do everything. We are fortunate to also have local councils who provide a range of courses at very reasonable prices. North Sydney Community Centre currently has 56 options. One of the courses they have run in the past is Hip Hop or Swing. I would love to learn this dance so if it reappears I will probably be on the list. In the meantime I am keeping my options open - you never know what is around the corner.
Spring looks like it has sprung early - a good time to try something new!
Carol Fallows
President
P.S. The Hub is still looking for a secretary. We really need someone to take the minutes and send out the agendas - it is only four to six times a year - it is so important for the Hub to operate efficiently. See below.
Position vacant: The Hub Needs a Secretary
The Hub’s secretary, Carol-Anne Blecich is stepping down. We are looking for someone who can work with Microsoft Word. There are between four to six Board meetings a year and the AGM.
The secretary needs to:
- Organise the meeting agendas and take and distribute the minutes.
- Make sure the required protocol is being followed
- Manage correspondence (this will start with the new website).
Carol-Anne will provide templates for the necessary tasks and is happy to assist. She will go through the new Constitution and make sure all processes will be followed going forward. Our next Board meeting is 17 September at noon.
Please email the Hub if you are interested in this position.
