Dear friend
Most of the Hub’s activities are into a new term with classes starting this week! We love that the classes are so popular and that so many of you enjoy them – and meeting new friends. Just two classes still have spots – the Zumba Class on Thursday mornings at 9. 30 is one. To catch one of these spots before they go click here (https://www.trybooking.com/CRXIW)
The Drawing Class does not start until 25 July and a few spaces are still to be filled. Time to pick up your pencil and learn new skills with the Hub's Drawing teacher, Janine Matthews, a graduate of the National Art School. Explore drawing and sketching, both indoors and out using pencil, charcoal and chalk, pastels. This a small class so you will benefit from individual tuition. Register at Trybooking
The Hub’s AGM is coming in August – so set aside the afternoon of August 20 and come along to the Coal Loader to find out how the Hub has fared in 2023-2024 and what we have planned for the future. Afternoon tea is included, and The Board is looking forward to getting together with new and old members.
We would love more Hubbers to be involved in organising and helping with Hub events. Here are some of the areas that we need help with:
- Assistance at events, e.g. Speakers days, Afternoon teas
- Joining our Communications team and working on the Newsletter and PR
- IT/Web support
- Backing up Walks leaders/leading walks
- Other
If you would like to be involved please speak to one of the Board members, or send us an email at wavertonhub@gmail.com.
I hope you are staying warm – maybe you are enjoying a Christmas in July celebration, or simply a glass of mulled wine!
Warm wishes from me!

Exercise your brain with Cognitive Stimulation Therapy
A healthy brain goes with a healthy body; this session is designed to give your brain a fun, engaging and stimulating workout.
Older adults with good cognitive ability are looking for different activities to keep their brain sharp, active and stimulated regularly. Family members of people living with dementia are looking for non-medical intervention to work alongside medications to support their loved ones.
Cognitive stimulation therapy becomes an effective and fun brain fitness program to meet these needs. It is also one of the key contributing factors to building cognitive reserve. Research shows that people with high cognitive reserve have a 46% reduced risk of developing dementia.
North Sydney Community Centre, Friday 26 July 10.00 . Cost $10
The Fix-It Hub is on this Saturday 13 July at the Coal Loader
On the second Saturday of each month from 10.30 to 1.00 the Coal Loader is the venue for getting things fixed! To repair things which might otherwise go out in the Council Cleanup or gather dust in a cupboard, the Fix-It Hub offers you a chance to have something restored to its former glory. All fixes are provided by dedicated volunteers free of charge. If a specialised part is needed to complete your fix, please bring it along with you or ask the team where you can purchase this before a follow-up session.

Keeping yourself safe
Next of Kin register
This week, Hub member, Alison Bond, reminded us about the NSW Police Next of Kin Register. In 2017 Alison registered with this program at her local police station. The program helps people living alone by having the contact details of their nominated person registered at their local police station. Alison told us that “ This proved very helpful when an incident occurred in our building last month...it's important, after you register to let neighbours know that the police have these details, and they will be the ones the police ask for information” Here is a link to the brochure about the program.
