Dear friend
.
Sydney’s weather was at its best on Tuesday when the Hub held our last coffee morning at Botanica. It is such a relaxed way to enjoy a coffee with friends among the bric-a-brac and plants! It will be missed. Moving along we have organised with Third Rail across the road, for a Hub table on Thursday mornings at 10.00. They were fully booked on Tuesdays with other get-togethers!!
.
I heard it was a jolly crowd at the Kirribilli Club on Wednesday for the Members’ Dinner. Many will breathe a sigh of relief to know the Club has been given a reprieve until April next year - so there’s plenty of time for us to hold another Members’ Dinner! No one knows how Sydney newspapers got the story that the Club was moving to the Waverton Bowling Club, just goes to show how media can beat up any rumour into a story. There is also no truth in the rumour that the shops between the railways and Giuseppe the butcher are under threat! And lastly Stephanie has told me that in 2 to 3 months time Waterview will become a kiosk open only during the day.
.
Mark your diaries for the Hub Excursion to the Mosman Rowers Club for an Exhibition and lunch - including a short walk for those who fancy it on June 12 and for the Speaker on June 11 at the Waverton Hall to learn about Captain Bligh. (See below for details of both) The latter could be a good opportunity to invite someone you think might enjoy joining the Hub - and it may appeal to a man you know.
.
If you remember last week I wrote asking for ideas to encourage men to join the Hub bearing in mind the results of a North Sydney survey on Social Inclusion which found older men in our local community are often more socially isolated than others (see last week’s newsletter).
William Bligh - hero, villain, or an accident waiting to happen – 11 June 2024 – Ian Burnet
Come and hear Ian Burnet talk about Vice-Admiral William Bligh FRS. He was a British officer in the Royal Navy and a colonial administrator. He is best known for the mutiny on HMS Bounty, which occurred in 1789 when the ship was under his command.
Ian is the author of a number of books, including Spice Islands, which tells the History, Romance and Adventure of the spice trade from the Moluccas in Eastern Indonesia over a 2000 year period.
Come and listen to Ian at our Waverton Hub Speakers’ Presentation:
