Dear friend

Great weather over the Easter weekend - I hope you were all able to enjoy it - and to get together with loved ones or friends for a bit of Happy Easter time.

I did, but I also had some time to focus on a new website for the Hub. As well as reducing the workload of those who work behind the scenes to keep the Hub viable and alive, the new website will be more interactive than the website we currently have. I have been working with Mary-Lyn Lawrence, a new Board member, to make sure everything changes smoothly. One feature I am looking forward to using is the Chat Room. This will give everyone in the Hub a chance to tell us what they would like, what is working for them, and what they don’t like! As a community organization, I believe it is important for all the community to have their say.

Have you booked for the Theatre party on April 18 at the Ensemble Theatre? Described as a “new comedy from David Williamson with wise-cracking commentary on wealth inequality and human greed featuring Georgie Parker and Kate Raison” this promises to be fun. Maybe get a group together and plan to go to lunch afterwards at the Flying Bear, Foys at the Sydney Flying Squadron or The Botanist? There are a limited number of tickets left - see below for booking details.

One of my pet hates is the phrases we use as we get older… a common one being ‘ She/he had a fall’. We don’t say children or sports people ‘had’ a fall - we say they fell. Attitude can play a large part in our expectations of ourselves. Our Speaker this month is from LiveUp. You can expect a very positive talk about adding life to your years - not years to your life! Lisa Maunsell will talk about throwing out stereotypes about ageing and doing things you have always wanted to do! LiveUp is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care. It’s this Tuesday 9th - for details see below.

Two more weeks until term ends. You will need to enrol in your favourite classes or groups in the new term - see below.

Cheers,

Carol

P.S. Talking about LiveUp I love to dance and I love watching the Austrian couple Nellie and Dietmar Ehrentraut who dance rock n’roll, hip hop and swing and have been competing in dance competitions around the world for the last 40 years. They are in their 70s and going strong.

Liveup – 09 April 2024 – Lisa Maunsell

Welcome to the upside of ageing.

75% of ageing is determined by the lifestyle choices we make; however, society seems to think ageing is a negative, inevitable decline, rather than the positive privilege it should be. If you’re ready to throw out tired stereotypes about ageing, try new interests, or take up some old ones, LiveUp can help you get started.

Join us to explore the LiveUp website where you can find personalised advice about assistive products and tailored suggestions for strength and exercise, and social connections, all in your local area.

Let’s add life to years, not just years to life!  Lisa Maunsell is the Community Engagement Professional for LiveUp in NSW and the ACT. Lisa is a nutritionist and has had 20 years’ experience in health promotion in the community.
