Dear friend

Today is International Women’s Day. A day in which women’s issues have been advanced since 1911, this year’s theme is ‘Inspire Inclusion’. I would like to celebrate all the women in the Hub, many of whom have been quiet achievers and continue to support and work towards improving the lives of and supporting those around them.

This week I received a text that read “[Medicare]: We've monitored your Medicare for unusual behaviour and have temporarily suspended your service, more details:” Maybe like me you get a lot of scams - this one is very obvious as I don’t believe Medicare send SMS and it has govz in the URL, but when you check your phone first thing in the morning it is possible to click on something like this and end up in trouble!

An article in the 'Sydney Morning Herald' on March 4 reported that “Australians collectively lost $1.3 million a day for scams last year, according to the ACCC”.

Tuesday’s Speaker this month is talking about Scams - something we all need to know more about! See below.

Have you thought about writing about your life? As part of the ongoing Seniors Festival, The Department of Family & Community Services and the Fellowship of Australian Writers Inc are running a short story writing competition for Senior cardholders. The theme is 'What made me' and 100 of the best stories will be chosen to be published in Seniors Stories Volume 10. There is a workshop on March 14 at the Dougherty Centre in Chatswood - find out more here.

As always there’s plenty happening - see below for this week's activities.
