Dear friend

I missed the first Family History Group meeting so I am very much looking forward to the next one on March 4.

I have been working on our family’s history for a number of years and have uncovered some fascinating information so I am looking forward to getting together with others who are also researching - and learning more about the huge wealth of family history resources.

The Family History Group has a couple of vacancies - see below for details on how you can join us.

This week saw one of the funniest groups of Hubbers walking Sydney streets in a long time. Monday’s storm took us by surprise and the group dispersed quickly. Like a group of bedraggled cats, the last of the group waited at a bus stop after being drenched by a bus that appeared to make a detour into the gutter to send up a huge wave of water. When our bus finally arrived we were fortunate to have a bus driver with a sense of humour! ‘What are you all doing out in the rain?’ He asked! He joked with us as he drove us back to the city and we dripped all over his bus. No lunch together after this walk - we all headed home – it was funny, but we certainly weren’t ‘Singing in the Rain’!

We are certainly experiencing some very variable weather this summer - not just in our part of the country but all over.  I’m looking forward to next Monday’s Out of Area Walk hopefully on a mild dry day - but you never know!

Happy hubbing!

While some of the men were dining at Waterview on Wednesday night,

another group was enjoying pizza at Bar Quattro along the road!

We had our first meeting of the Hub Family History Group in February. Planning is now underway for our 4 March meeting.

In March we’re talking about the tools we use in family history research. We can hone our skills on tools we often use, and learn about new ones that could lead to a breakthrough.

If you missed out joining our group we do have a couple of places available now.

Please get in touch.

Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month, 7pm to 9pm.

The Sessions will be held in a Private Home in Wollstonecraft. This is an apartment with stairs and a lift

Kristine will co-ordinate the sessions and she will send the address on enrolment.

There is no cost.

The Golden Age of Steam – 27 February 2024 – Noel Phelan

Today you can experience and enjoy the romance of steam – the smell, the hissing and mechanical noises that make it seem alive. The Sydney Heritage Fleet has two steam vessels – LADY HOPETOUN and the steam tug WARATAH. The Australian National Maritime Museum in Darling Harbour has the steam yacht ENA.

Come and hear Noel delve into this golden age.

The meeting will be held at Piato Restaurant 123 Blues Point Road, McMahons Point at 7:00 am. Breakfast is served during the talk.
