Dear friend

This year I didn’t spend any time checking out the programme for the Sydney Festival because we were moving house. At the last minute we booked tickets for a couple of events - and we were given tickets to one event for Christmas. We attended ‘White Gold’ with our granddaughters and they loved it.

I was disappointed to learn that we had missed tickets for ‘Night Songs at Coney Island’. Hub member David Wood is singing in the Sydney Philharmonia choirs which performs as part of this event featuring soloists Peter Coleman Wright and Cheryl Barker. The music of Poulenc, Stravinsky and Mahler is a requiem to all the children who have died young and who have visited Luna Park. There are a few nights left but I think it is booked out!

The Festival is almost over and school holidays will end at the beginning of February. The Hub year is just beginning!

We are quite excited about the Hub’s Balls Head picnic this week (Thursday February 1). We have chosen the evening to avoid the heat of the day, but the barbecue/picnic area opposite the car park at the top is very sheltered. It starts at 5.30 but some of us will be there earlier to reserve a space. See below for more details. If the weather is horrible and we decide to cancel there will be a notice on Facebook and the Waverton Hub WhatsApp group.

Many activities are fully booked but there is still space in some of the activities. We welcome a new Board Member, Mary-Lyn Lawrence who will be working with Liane on keeping the calendar and the activities and events information up to date.

A couple of Hubbers said they liked the videos that past-president Luke used to add to his newsletter. This one is a preview of the show White Gold’ I mentioned above.

Take care,

Carol Fallows

President

P.S. Final Street Library update! How handsome it is! Thank you John Medcalf, Raymond from Waverton Cellars and the Wollstonecraft Men’s Shed.

You may be familiar with the ABC series “Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds.” This is the type of program we will be running, but now for community-dwelling adults of any age above 65 years old!
