Dear friend

It seems that suddenly Christmas is almost here! Just 24 days until we all stop and celebrate with family and friends. Councils, shopping centres and streets have been announcing the festival for some time – it seems to get earlier every year.

The Christmas tree in Martin Place was lit last night November 30 – so it's time to consider discovering Sydney's Christmas Lights. This year the Botanic Gardens has decided not to do the Light Trail it did last year, so we will check other Christmas night walks and see what else is happening before we announce a Christmas Light walk.

This is the time of year when we can also think about how we can do something for those less fortunate than ourselves.

The Crows Nest Centre is packing Christmas hampers and each year the Hub has contributed. This year they are hoping to pack 250 hampers. See below for how you can help.

The North Sydney Community Centre is helping The Smith Family with a drive to deliver over 75,000 new toys and 50,000 new books to children in need around Australia. You can drop off your donations of to the centre during office hours – ideal if you are planning a visit to the Library - just look out for the festive handmade Christmas tree!

There are a few more weeks of activities and get-togethers as we get closer to the end of the year...

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Ruth Elston following a Stroke last week.

Ruth and Colin assisted in the running of Sunday Safaris, took part in Out of Area Walks and often attended the weekly Morning Coffees and Happy Hours. She was interested in becoming more involved with the workings of the Hub.

Recently Ruth received a 50 Years Service Award for her lengthy teaching service. A great achievement. She was on long service leave prior to her retirement at the end of the year after her career as a Teacher Librarian.

She will be sadly missed. We offer our sincere condolences to Colin, Rachael and Bryan and their families.

In Ruth's own words 'I love to sing'.
