Local Walks

7.30 a.m. Meet at Waverton station for trains to Town Hall and Kings Cross, stroll down through Woolloomooloo, walk from there to the poolside cafe for  coffee at the Boy Charlton Pool which overlooks Woolloomooloo Bay and return across the Botanic Gardens and through to Circular Quay to take the train from there. Easy grade with some stairs; 2 hrs; Bev to lead.

Sunday Safari

Destination:  Tour of the Lancer Barracks, 2 Smith St, Parramatta, followed by lunch at Harris Park, famed for its Indian restaurants.

“The Lancer Barracks is the longest continuously operational military facility in Australia since colonial settlement” (Wikipedia). Governor Lachlan Macquarie ordered the Barracks to be constructed to replace earlier buildings that were no longer fit for purpose. Construction of the new barracks was completed in 1820. Cost of the tour is $8 (concession).

Travel:  9.00am  Meet on Platform 1 Waverton station to catch the 9.08 train to Parramatta. ETA 9.58am.  5 minute walk to the Commercial Hotel for coffee before another short walk to the Lancer Barracks for our tour and general look around the site.

We’ll leave the Barracks approx 12.30 to catch the train to Harris Park for lunch. The restaurant is a 5-10 minute easy walk from the station.
