Dear friend
Dear members
Firstly, an apology: sorry I was forced to postpone our Speakers Talk last Tuesday. I had a technical issue that was preventing me from accessing the presentation. However we are now back on track and my presentation on the Aussie Camino will be on this coming Tuesday (June 21) in the Hall at 2pm. I hope to see you there.
Members would have received an email this week regarding renewal of membership to the Hub for 2022/23. Thank you to those members who have already renewed. For those who are yet to renew, there is a TryBooking option to pay your $40 membership or your concession membership. Click here to pay via TryBooking.
I was lucky enough to see the new Baz Luhrmann movie – Elvis – the other night. The screening was in the State Theatre and was a part of the Sydney Film Festival. It was certainly a very interesting movie; we know the story line but this time the story focused on Colonel Tom Parker (well acted by Tom Hanks) and his relationship with Elvis and the way he treated Elvis. The movie was filmed entirely on the Gold Coast and employed some 4,000 people. Music was quite loud and the camera work in the 1st half challenged my optical nerves. Also I thought the film was a little too long at 2H:39M, especially as the film didn’t start until 8.30pm. But overall well worthwhile watching. I understand it will be released to cinemas next week. Here is one of the songs from the movie if you are interested.
Well its been a short week and we have been blessed with lovely sunshine. But the cold winter mornings have caught me humming along to this tune from the 1960s. Click hear to listen in. You will enjoy it! The photo below is of the sunrise around 7am this morning as I walked across the SHB.
I hope to see some of you out and about during the week. Tuesday Coffee catchup and Wednesday Wine gatherings are a great way to meet and talk to other Hub members. See you there!
Stay warm. Luke.

Speakers Program
June 21, 2022, 2:00 pm to June 21, 2022, 3:30 pm The Australian Camino - Luke Keighery
The Aussie Camino is a 200km pilgrimage route running from Portland in Victoria to Penola in South Australia, inspired by the life and journeys of Australia’s Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop and her mentor Fr Julian Tenison Woods. The walk is based on the traditions of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela: pilgrims receive a guidebook, passport, scallop shell and stay in the local towns along the way.
Luke is Waverton Hub President; he enjoys walking and is passionate about supporting worthy causes. In March this year Luke walked the Aussie Camino in a group of 8 pilgrims. It was an amazing adventure and Luke has many stories to tell. Through this walk Luke raised over $10,000 for Interplast Australia – a charity doing amazing work sending teams of volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists and allied health professionals to provide life-changing surgery and medical training in 17 countries across the Asia-Pacific region.
Come and listen to Luke at our Waverton Hub Speakers’ Presentation:

The Willloughby Symphony choir presents Elijah on Sunday July 3 at 2pm.

Handyman/building manager required – Crows Nest Uniting Church
Do you know, or can you recommend, a builder/handyman in the lower North Shore?
Crows Nest Uniting Church is looking for a handyman/manager to oversee the maintenance of its properties in Waverton and Crows Nest. The Church already has its list of favoured tradespeople, but we are looking for someone who can advise us when maintenance issues arise, oversee larger jobs, and (if necessary) recommend contractors where we have no existing contacts. We expect that the role would suit a retired builder/handyman, who lives reasonably locally, and who would be available to attend on-site at reasonable notice. Terms and conditions open to negotiation.
Please contact Peter Butt (Hub member) on 9436 2400.
