Dear friend

Dear members.

Such cold weather. I hope you are keeping warm. Wearing plenty of layers is the way to go. And exercise of course. Although, we have enjoyed a good deal of sunshine this week, so sitting in the sun out of the wind is another great option (but wear sunscreen and/or a hat).

On Monday I led the 9.30am out-of-area walk. The sun was shining and the sky a beautiful colour blue. Joined by 16 Hub members we enjoyed a long train ride to Penrith and then explored some heritage buildings before heading to the Nepean River for lunch at the Log Cabin hotel. We then walked via the new pedestrian bridge across the river to Emu Plains. All up we walked about 7km. We intend to return another time to explore more of Emu Plains so keep an eye out for details in a few months.

It was great to have Phil Pik come on our walk. Phil has been our regular leader of the 9.30 walks and will resume the role from our next walk.

Wonderful to see so many Hub members enjoying the Tuesday Coffee Catchups (10am each week at Botanica cafe) and Wednesday Wine Gatherings (4-6pm at Quattro wine bar).

This week's music is a Lennon-McCartney number from 1966 . Enjoy.

The Australian Camino - Luke Keighery

The Aussie Camino is a 200km pilgrimage route running from Portland in Victoria to Penola in South Australia, inspired by the life and journeys of Australia’s Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop and her mentor Fr Julian Tenison Woods. The walk is based on the traditions of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela: pilgrims receive a guidebook, passport, scallop shell and stay in the local towns along the way.

Luke is Waverton Hub President; he enjoys walking and is passionate about supporting worthy causes. In March this year Luke walked the Aussie Camino in a group of 8 pilgrims. It was an amazing adventure and Luke has many stories to tell. Through this walk Luke raised over $10,000 for Interplast Australia – a charity doing amazing work sending teams of volunteer plastic and reconstructive surgeons, anaesthetists and allied health professionals to provide life-changing surgery and medical training in 17 countries across the Asia-Pacific region.
