COVID-19 SAFE WALKS

To ensure that our 10am Monday walkers are kept safe from viruses and from fines, the following instructions will apply to that walk from this coming Monday until further notice:

If the group is larger than 20 walkers, it must be split into 2 groups and those groups must be separated as they undertake their walk. Our leader, Phil Pik will manage this process.

The walk will not include food or coffee stops. Please either bring your refreshments in a backpack for consumption along the way, or have our coffee/lunch before/after in a small group if you chose. These activities will not be a part of the formal Hub walk.

Each walker must wear a face mask at all times. Walking in pairs is what we tend to do, and that is NOT distancing yourself. That’s why wearing a mask at all times is essential. If breathing or getting enough air becomes a problem, lower you mask temporarily and separate yourself from others for a short time.

Thank you for your cooperation on these matters. Remember to keep your distance and keep safe.

About Waverton Hub

A warm welcome to the Waverton Hub’s website.

The Waverton Hub is mutual organisation of residents of Waverton, Wollstonecraft and neighbouring areas in Sydney.  As we grow older, we members of the Hub are helping each other to enjoy our lives, stay in our own homes for as long as we can, to be as healthy as we can, and achieve all this for as little cost as possible.

About a dozen of us started the organisation from scratch in late 2012. We opened for membership in August 2013 with a program of activities and by the end of April 2015 had over 300 members. Around 80 members are working on continuing to build the Hub, setting up systems, and designing and leading activities and events.

Staying safe in Smoke Haze

Staying safe and healthy in the smoke haze

During exercise, respiratory rate and volume increases, this in turn increases the total airway exposure to pollutants. Moderate exercise can increase the total amount of air passing through the airway by more than 10 times and vigorous exercise by more the 20 times, compared to resting values. Even at moderately reduced air quality, this can represent a significant increase in pollutant exposure during a one-hour, high intensity training session.

With the recent and ongoing issues with bush fire smoke and air pollution, here is a useful guide to help assist you to decide if exercise is recommended.

Walkers Programs February to June 2020

The Waverton Hub offers two walks every Monday; a 7.30 Local Area walk and a longer 9.30 Out of Area Walk.

For the 7.30 am walkers, the leader will be at the Waverton Station whatever the weather.

Note that the 7.30am Walks will now only be listed in the Hub’s eNews Newsletter published on Fridays as they will b organised/chosen on an ad-hoc weekly basis.

For the 9:30am walks, walks may be changed to a different one or cancelled at the last minute due to weather conditions or lack of a leader. If so, you will be notified by email on the morning of the walk at the latest, so please make it a habit to check your email before leaving home to join a walk.
