About Waverton Hub

A warm welcome to the Waverton Hub’s website.

The Waverton Hub is mutual organisation of residents of Waverton, Wollstonecraft and neighbouring areas in Sydney.  As we grow older, we members of the Hub are helping each other to enjoy our lives, stay in our own homes for as long as we can, to be as healthy as we can, and achieve all this for as little cost as possible.

About a dozen of us started the organisation from scratch in late 2012. We opened for membership in August 2013 with a program of activities and by the end of April 2015 had over 300 members. Around 80 members are working on continuing to build the Hub, setting up systems, and designing and leading activities and events.

SPEAKERS PROGRAM - May

Speaker: Noel Phelan

Topic: Discover the history of illustrious boat building Halvorsen family.

The Hub is pleased to have Noel Phelan as our guest speaker on Tuesday 7 May at 2pm in the Waverton Hall. Noel is a long time guide and presenter from the Australian National Maritime Museum and will entertain us with the Halvorsen story. The Halvorsen family came to Australia with very little and worked very hard to build a better life. However they did more than that – they showed extraordinary commitment to boat building and excellent craftsmanship and boat design skills that made their boats highly desirable. They also demonstrated outstanding seamanship by sailing their yachts with great success. Halvorsen yachts won back to back handicap honours three times in the Sydney Hobart race and they also built and raced the first Australian challenger for the America’s Cup - GRETEL - for Frank Packer. Many people enjoyed a holiday on a Halvorsen cruiser based at Bobbin Head This was the largest hire fleet in the southern hemisphere with lots of celebrities enjoying the beautiful Hawkesbury River.

Walkers Programs March to June 2019

The Waverton Hub offers two walks every Monday; a 7.30 Local Area walk and a longer 9.30 Out of Area Walk.

For the 7.30 am walkers, the leader will be at the Waverton Station whatever the weather.

For the 9:30am walks, walks may be changed to a different one or cancelled at the last minute due to weather conditions or lack of a leader. If so, you will be notified by email on the morning of the walk at the latest, so please make it a habit to check your email before leaving home to join a walk.
