7.30 a.m. Trains from Waverton and Town Hall to Kings Cross. Walk down Victoria Street to Embarkation Park to observe any naval vessels at anchor. Walk via Macleay Street and laneway to Billyard Ave [includes some steep steps down] and on to Elizabeth Bay Marina for coffee. Return via Ithaca and Greenknowe Streets, past  El Alamein fountain and return to Kings Cross Station.  2hrs; easy/medium grade; Bev to lead.

Sunday Safari

Destination:       S H Ervin Gallery and the Observatory at Observatory Hill, Millers Point.

Lunch venue:    Zushi Japanese Restaurant, Barangaroo. Menu attached.

We will visit the Archibald Prize Salon des Refusés at the S H Ervin Gallery (adult $12, seniors concession $10, National Trust member $4). Also available for those who would like a different experience: a tour of the Observatory (adult $10, seniors concession $8).

We will stop on the way from Circular Quay at La Renaissance Patisserie for those who need their mid-morning coffee shot.

Some of the short walks between our destinations are not flat. One instance involves downhill stairs.

Booking:  Please book online (Click on Read more below) via the Hub’s website by Wednesday 30th May.

Travel:       

  9.35am  Meet on Waverton Station Platform 1 to catch the 9.45am train to Wynyard.         

  9.54am  Arrive Wynyard Station, platform 3. Walk to platform 6.

  9.58am  Catch train to Circular Quay. Arrive 10.01.

We’ll then walk to La Renaissance Patisserie, Argyle St for a coffee-stop, before heading to Observatory Hill around 10.45am. For those interested, we will arrive in good time for the 11.15am half-hour tour of the Observatory.

Those who’d prefer not to do the tour can go straight to the Salon des Refusés at the SH Ervin gallery, where the others will join them after their tour. We’ll leave by 1pm to walk to Barangaroo Avenue and lunch at Zushi.

About Waverton Hub

A warm welcome to the Waverton Hub’s website.

The Waverton Hub is mutual organisation of residents of Waverton, Wollstonecraft and neighbouring areas in Sydney.  As we grow older, we members of the Hub are helping each other to enjoy our lives, stay in our own homes for as long as we can, to be as healthy as we can, and achieve all this for as little cost as possible.

About a dozen of us started the organisation from scratch in late 2012. We opened for membership in August 2013 with a program of activities and by the end of April 2015 had over 300 members. Around 80 members are working on continuing to build the Hub, setting up systems, and designing and leading activities and events.

Life Membership for Chris Udy

Rev Chris Udy has retired as Minister of the Crows Nest Uniting Church. Life membership of the Hub is being conferred in recognition of Rev Udy’s early and ongoing support for the Hub, including facilitating Hub use of the Waverton Hall. The Life Membership Presentation was attended by about 40 members. Rev Udy was delighted to receive the life membership and talked about the importance of community especially in this age of social media. Madeleine MacPherson and her team provided a delicious afternoon tea. Thank you Madeleine, Pat, Cheryl, Sandy, Lin, Lorna and Janet.

Sunday Safari - Bus Museum

On Sunday August 20 Hub members visited the Sydney Bus Museum in Leichhardt. Later they had lunch at the Glebe Tramsheds. Thanks to Chris for the photos.
